The Wildfire S is now added to the list of supported devices on the HTCdev site
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/

So now it is possible to get S-OFF using that Wink

Well, I just rooted my wildfire s ( that's s-on )

First, use the official tool from htc
second, download  the updated zip from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229
unzip and flash the recovery image to your phone ( fastboot flash recovery recovery.img )

after this, you can install custom roms.

Hey all, I've been lurking here for a couple of days after buying a WF S, trying to figure out how to S-Off and Root and all that. I have successfully S-Off'd my WF S (yay!), but I am unable to root it to start doing the CY7 ROM. I'm stumped. I have been beating my head against a wall for a couple of days now. It shouldn't be this hard.

I have manually gone through many different options that I have found in these forums as well as a lot of them on other forums (XDA included). Nothing works. I have done SuperTool, SuperOneClick, UnlockRoot...and nothing. I've even tried doing many different ways manually, and I cannot get this frikkin' phone to do anything. Since I am new to this, would anyone be so kind as to perhaps think of something I'm missing here?

Please feel free to treat me like the nub I am (according to Android modding anyhow), but don't flame. Just tell me what you think I can be doing and I'll run through it and see if I can get it to work. Thanks in advance!

Hello all! Smiley New to these forums.

I have a Droid X and have rooted it several times, flashed ROMs on it, and even SBFed more times than I can count. I definitely know my way around rooting and romming, but of course, it's different on each phone. I'm about to let go of my precious Droid X because I have to switch to a cheaper service, and this includes getting an HTC Wildfire S.

1. Is it possible to root the Wildfire S? I see a lot of terms around here like s-on and s-off and unlocking and blah blah blah... so I just want to know, can I root it? I'm assuming so, of course, since it's Android. If so, what's the easiest method?

2. What are the best energy-saving ROMs? Fastest ROM? Most popular ROM?

3. On my Droid X I have apps like Widget Locker, Juice Battery, etc, are all the apps on there the same as on the Wildfire S?
