My Wildfire S has a serious issue with battery life. Although I shut down most programs and connections, the battery lasts about 3 hours only. Also I have noticed that the phone gets quite hot on the back by the micro SD card. Do you think that my phone is faulty?

Search for 'Advanced Task Killer' in the free apps.  It lets you know what programs are still running and you can Kill the selected apps.  This may help.  It certainly saves me a lot of battery usage.

Thanks Wildfire Se but I did all that and still the battery life was abysmal and the overheating worrying. The phone has now gone off to HTC for a repair. I will let the forum know what transpires.

Timviola, yes please, tell us what the result is.  My phone gets 'warmish,' but never worryingly so.

I suppose the internal magic is far beyond the ilk of mortal man and only the maker/designer can interrogate the phone to discover the fault.

Let's hope the response is a fast one.   There's nothing more annoying than having to send a piece of kit back to the manufacturer who then takes days and weeks to sort it out.

Given the huge publicity campaign for the Wildfire S, and the large amount of money spent on their campaign, HTC will not want to be reading in any Forums dedicated to the Wildfire S, that there are customers having problems.

Any prospective buyer will be 'googling' to research all he/she can find out about the phone before spending any money.

If it turns out that your phone is a 'one off,' then all will be well for the company, (but obviously not pleasant for you) however, if more Wildfire S owners find they are experiencing the same problem, and they discuss this on the Forums, HTC will have to address the matter ASAP.

It could be that you have a rogue/duff battery, in which case a replacement battery will solve your problem.  Let's hope it is that.

Keep us posted. Smiley

My phone gets warmish when playing about with it but same as Wildfire See- not worryingly. Although, when charging my phone it does get quite stupidly warm.
I am not too sure as to why it is overheating too much, but on the battery side of things, definately keep the app task killer to kill off all background running apps. Plus, I have a widget on one of the homescreens that I can use to adjust the brightness of my screen. I have mine on about 33% and it seems very good for making the battery last longer. Hope that helps.

I've had my Wildfire S for less than a week and am not using apps or too much internet, no music or downloads, and haven't got email working properly yet. However, my battery lasts less than a working day on standby, and the handset does get worryingly hot.

I am not a fan of iPhone, hence the reason for taking the Wildfire S, but so far, my experience is not good.

Where do I obtain the app killer and screen brightness widgets?

Thanks.

For Advanced Task Killer App........
Turn on Wi-Fi.  Tap 'Market,' from your large selection of icons.  When you get the choices, choose All Applications and tap Top free.  Advanced Task Killer is about the 8th one down the list.  Tap it and choose 'install.'
Keep the Advanced Task Killer icon on your main home page so that you can tap it regularly to be shown what is running in the background and then the ones with a green tick can be Killed.
It is very simple and very effective at saving battery power.
I too have the brightness icon on one of my home pages and keep the brightness level down to also save power.  HTH Wink

Hi,
my battery lasts about 4 hours in use and about one day in standby. I'm always connected to the Google services. (Also latitude, which I think drains the battery more than when disabled)

Just to put you all in the picture - my faulty Wildfire S's battery lasted less than 5 hours in standby after I had killed all apps (except Battery App) and turned off wi-Fi and Internet. The temperature of the unit as measured by the battery app increased during that time by about 10 degrees C.

This is a real problem. I am not making many calls and am still having to re-charge twice a day. My battery gets very hot when in use and when charging. I use the 3 network and my Wildfire S did not come pre-loaded with Planet 3, and 3 customer services have been very good, but they could not get it installed over the phone. Their answer is to replace the handset, which will be in 2 days. Hopefully, everything will work as expected. They sais they have not had any problems with poor battery life and overheating, but I am starting to suspect that's not the case.
I've noticed that the main culprit for power is Android. It uses 57% of the power!! This is quite ridiculous, and unsustainable.
Has anyone else noticed how much power Android uses?

64% for me at the moment.
I only have to charge it twice a day, when in extreme usage.
Sounds a bit weird in your case.

Anything at that level is unacceptable for a phone for everyday use. Charging twice a day should be unheard of, even with extreme use. I thought my Nokia E71 was bad at less than once a day, but I now wish I was still using it... unfortunately, I unlocked it from '3' when I got the Wildfire S!

One problem seems to be the sensitivity of the screen. With so many apps and widgets on the home screen, whenever it's in my pocket or case, many of them get opened with the slightest touch, and start consuming massive amounts of battery.

I will see if my replacement is better, but I am actually starting to HATE the HTC Wildfire S.

I got my phone back last night from Milton Keynes. HTC told me they had replaced the Main Board and had performed a Function Test. Also, to help validate the warranty they had added a security seal. I charged it up and left it on standby overnight. After 6 hours it had switched itself off and required charging. So in other words HTC have failed completely to sort out the problem which is as bad as ever. Should I insist they send me a new unit? Also they had removed the Zagg Invisible Skin and replaced it rather badly, leaving finger-prints and bubbles under it. I am not very happy!
