Hi Guys..
Yesterday, i was warned by my phone that a system update was available.
This update brings the android version (in my case) from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5.
Phone software version went from 1.33.401.2 to 2.13.401.2.

Of course, you tend to expect a lot of it when there is finally an update available for the software and you would like to imagine that the Wildfire S will do a lot better after this is done.

However...   This is my opinion about it. And some advice for those who updated and kinda worry about to reset to factory settings again or not.

I must say that you don't miss out on much if you don't update. I have been looking around in the phone software for a few hours and only noticed 3 things :
- Phone has 'lost' about 18 MB of the 91 MB memory i had available. This is not a great thing for me as i worry a bit that it will come to 0 in one or two years time.
- The screen after waking up is a different one now and it's the one that can be found on Youtube if you search for the new 'Ice cream cookie' or Android 4.0.
To unlock , you now need to pull a ring from the bottom of the screen to the middle of the screen. And you also get 4 shortcuts you can start right away. You could even choose these 4 yourself if you want in settings (can find it near 'background' and 'scenes' under a new thing called 'lock screen' or 'block screen'.
Sorry : i'm just translating from Dutch and i don't know what's on an English software phone.
In this 'not yet unlocked' screen, there is a neat way of showing new text, which are centered on the phone screen and preview the incoming message.
- Third change : Market has been changed a bit. The looks and feels of it are a little different but that is just a minor change.

During the setup, the phone switched off and on several times.
Shortly after setup was done, the screen became unresponsive for several seconds (up to 10-15) on several occasions. Also, apps that were not around at all on the screen suddenly started up when i just was trying to swype the screen to the left or right.
After a few more manual restarts, this problem seems to be gone..  but it's not giving a lot of confidence about the whole thing.

Sense 3.0 doesn't seem to be included in the update for Wildfire S by the way.. My phone still tells me that the Sense 2.1 is installed, which makes me think the unblocking is part of the phone software, not the Sense.

In a few words :    Minor software update with little to moderate value added to the usability of the phone. Since we had to wait a long time for this one small update, i suspect we will never have the pleasure of receiving a real update as Sense 3.0 seems to be too much to handle for our phone and so is Android 4.0 (that's what i read).

If any of you can add new features they discovered after the update was done, please post it. Couldn't find a text about it on the internet so far.

A friend of mine got it on his wildfire s as well. He hasn't yet formed an opinion on it.

But I'd like to ask, why is it that I didn't get it. I have the auto update on and regularly check manually as well. But I don't get it, why?

I don't work for HTC or Google, but i do know that telecom companies need to split their efforts up a bit.
Imagine that in UK there would be an update for all BT's customer modems. No data center can handle to update all available machines at the same time and still guarantee a normal performance of the daily transfers.
It seems that HTC is not just rolling out an update for the Wildfire S but other phones are updated too. So, I guess you can imagine what a huge stress this will put on their data centres (no idea how many they have).
So, I guess if your Wildfire S is part of the group of phones that will receive the update (depending probably on your country, android and phone software version, language, etc etc etc) your turn will come soon and you will receive the notification of the update one of these days / weeks.

Strange battery behavior too, started after the update. The battery remains at the level where you stopped charging for a very long time, being 100 % or less.   Maybe more battery drain , HTC Sense seems to be one of the main causes now.

Edit : battery seems to be holding on better on 'non-active'.

Ask your phone company. It comes via them.

Mine got updated just today.

Haven't noticed much difference till now, apart from the different welcome screen, that is a nice touch for frequently used apps.

Market can't be uninstalled here. It reinstalls the new version on the next use. So if you are planning to use it again, there is no use in deleting the update.

Can someone please help me!?

I bought the HTC Wildfire S partly because I liked the user interface. When I updated the phone I was not aware that this would completely alter the interface. This "ring" that you have to pull to unlock the screen etc is in my view ridiculous. I used to be able to answer my phone without looking. Now I have to drag the ring to the green phone. The same goes for turning of the alarm. In my view HTC should have warned me that the phone would completely alter in appearance. I have called custumer services but they say that I cannot change it back and basically I will have to throw the phone in the bin if I'm not happy. They say that they are sorry that I am not happy, but they really don't care. Why should they? Is there anyway to alter the phone back to the way it was without this stuid "ring". (I will never ever buy a HTC phone again.)

Could give it a try to restore factory settings and then don't accept to update the firmware when you are prompted to do so.

I didn't try it myself, but i think this is your first and best chance.
I have no idea if the update also changed the backup files on your sd-card.
Let us know once you tried please.

General idea about updates :   Most of them are completely useless and if you want to hang on to a fine working phone,  don't update at all. That was a lesson i learned when i had the Nokia E71 :-)

About this update, the one we are talking about here :
The improvement of the battery drainage is maybe there, but the makers are mainly throwing sand in the users' eyes. Nowadays and after the update, the phone seems to not use any power at all when on standby. 100% stays 100 % for 8-10 hours. But then the battery drain seems to increase somewhere between 60 and 80 %.
In the end, i am still recharging my battery every two days, which is not exactly record-breaking. Some smartphones are even worse and i guess some do better.
