My old Wildfire (android v2.2) had this built-in (camera LED) app Flashlight.
Beautiful UI, and you could cycle through 4 levels of brightness (OFF - 1 - 2 - 3) by pressing the torch's button.

Much to my surprise this app is NOT in my new WildFire S (android v2.3).
Why did they drop it?

The old apk is on the net (called com.htc.flashlight.apk) but this does not turn on the camera LED on my new Wildfire S.

Any suggestions for a flashlight app that:
- turns on the camera LED
- works on Wildfire S
- has multiple brightness?

I tried a few but found Tiny Flashlight the best. It lets you use your LED flash or screen as a source of light. Also has some absolutely fun features like "police lights" etc.

I ended up using TeslaLED as my flashlight app.

But then I got a PM from Jonas to do the following:

- locate the HTC Hub app on your Wildfire S
- register for the HTCsense network
- install the original HTC Flashlight app.

This has worked great for me, now I have the old Wildfire app running on my new Wildfire S.

You can also use the camcorder light as a flashlight.

Launch the camcorder (or the camera & then switch to camcorder) and turn the flash on. Voila!

You don't have to be recording for the light to be on. However, since the viewfinder is on and the auto-focus is adjusting the lens as you move the phone around, it likely uses more power than a flashlight app.

But, if you don't want to clutter up your phone's memory with yet another app, the camcorder light will get the job done.

Just run the "Market" app on your phone, and search for "tawch". You should be able to follow your nose from there.
